What Is FUT?

Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT), also known as the strip method, is one of the original hair transplant techniques. It involves surgically removing a thin strip of scalp from the donor area (typically the back of the head), from which individual follicular units are extracted and transplanted into balding areas.

Although newer methods like FUE are more common today, FUT is still a reliable option—especially for patients requiring a high number of grafts or with limited donor availability.

How It Works

• A thin, horizontal strip of skin is removed from the donor area
• The donor site is then sutured or stapled closed, leaving a fine linear scar
• The strip is dissected under a microscope to isolate individual follicular units
• These grafts are then implanted into thinning or bald areas with careful placement
